Free bus passes for newcomers to Medicine Hat suggested

Medicine Hat News: "Free bus passes for newcomers to Medicine Hat was suggested by Martha Munz Gue in a letter to the editor this week.

Gue makes some interesting points about how this could establish a habit that would ultimately increase revenue for the city’s transit service. That would mean less subsidy from municipal taxpayers in the long run. Free bus passes could also be offered to the unemployed temporarily to help them on a limited income, Gue suggested.

There are some cities in Canada that actually have a couple days a year when travelling on the bus is totally free for everyone. It provides an opportunity to experience the service and determine how it would facilitate getting them to work, grocery shopping, etc."
